How to convert a 2D flat design into 3D objects in Illustrator
If you have no experience in 3D modeling software like Blender then making 3D objects can be very complex. But luckily, Adobe Illustrator 2022 has introduced new features converting flat designs into 3D objects. So, Today I’m gonna show how you can do this in six easy steps.
Import the flat vector you want to convert to the artboard. I’ve taken the apple emoji for this tutorial.
Now select all the objects by using the shortcut Ctrl/Cmd + A and group them together using the shortcut Ctrl/Cmd + G
Next, With grouped objects selected go to Effects -> 3D and Materials -> Extrude and Bevel. You should see a menu.
In the Objects tab under “3D Type” Select Inflate.
- Adust `depth` according to your vector and make sure `volume` is 100%
- Check `Inflate both sides`
- Turn on the Cap option for a solid appearance.
- `Rotate` the design according to your vector
In Materials Tab under “All materials” select `Default`, but also try to play around with different materials.
Under “Base Properties” set roughness to `1.0` and metallic to `0.1`
In lightning, tab adjust the light according to your preferences and check `Ambient Light`
Under “Render Icon” Enable Ray Tracing and set Quality to `High` and check `Render Vector` to render the vector click `Render` and Voila!! You just created a 2d flat icon into a 3D awesome-looking icon.
